AI won't make agency work obsolete. But it will make a lot of agency work obsolete.

Artificial intelligence and modern development tools are shifting the value of agency work. Production, variant creation, research, and standard texts are becoming faster and more cost-effective. The value no longer lies in the volume of work, but in the ability to decide what should be built, designed, communicated, or omitted.

Much that was once effort is now simply work

Production steps that once required significant time and specialist knowledge can now be accelerated by AI-powered tools. This includes drafting texts, generating image variants, or automating routine tasks. These efficiency gains are real and are changing project calculations.

The focus is shifting: it's not the sheer volume of hours worked that matters, but the quality of the results and the relevance of the decisions underpinning them. What was once considered complex production can now be viewed as routine work, requiring fewer resources.

Four hours of work do not automatically equate to four hours of value

Agency fees should not be justified solely by the time spent. If a task can now be solved faster thanks to new technologies, the client should benefit from this efficiency. The value of a service is measured by its outcome, not by the duration of its creation.

A modern agency uses these opportunities to focus on what is essential: developing solutions that truly work. This means not automatically charging for every hour saved as an additional service, but seeking added value in the result.

Standard software loses its automatic advantage

Small, individual solutions, automations, or internal tools can now be more economical than additional SaaS subscriptions. The rapid availability of development tools and AI modules makes it possible to solve specific problems with less effort than purchasing and integrating standard software would require.

This does not mean that custom development is inherently superior. Maintenance, operation, security, and actual need remain crucial factors. However, the balance between standard solutions and customisation has shifted, offering new potential for companies looking to optimise their processes.

What AI struggles to decide

Priorities, clear positioning, creative direction, the context of a message, recognising contradictions, and consciously omitting information all require judgement. These abilities are inextricably linked to human experience, empathy, and strategic thinking.

AI can generate options, but it cannot evaluate which one is correct. Good work increasingly involves critically examining generated options, making an informed decision, and taking responsibility for it. This is the core of agency service, which cannot be replaced by technology.

Production becomes cheaper. So does arbitrariness.

More variations and faster output do not automatically create better communication. On the contrary, a flood of generated content can dilute brand messaging and lead to a lack of distinctiveness. The bottleneck shifts from production to selection. The crucial question is not how much can be produced, but what is correct, distinctive, and relevant for the specific task. Today, an agency must act more than ever as a filter and curator, identifying the most effective solutions from a wealth of possibilities.

Why pay an agency today?

Not for maximum production, but for better decisions, strong ideas, implementation expertise, and a robust outcome. A modern agency uses technology to reduce unnecessary effort and focus on what truly matters: strategy, creativity, and impact. It is the partner that helps ask the right questions, understand complex interrelationships, and develop solutions that go beyond mere output. It is about creating value through judgement and strategic leadership, not through simply processing tasks.
